Best In Show: Pet Pantry Warehouse

Any pet owner knows that there’s no limit to what we’ll do—or buy—for our beloved four-legged family members. The $200 billion business is a testament to the range of products available. While many consumers shop online or patronize big box specialty stores, Pet Pantry Warehouse has found a purr-fect way to stand out.

The Jacobson family purchased Pet Pantry Warehouse in 1995 when it was a single store, based in Greenwich, CT. Today, the father-and-sons team (Barry, Ari and Adam) run a seven-location business with stores in Westchester and Fairfield County. In speaking with Adam Jacobson, the company’s Executive Vice President and Fairfield resident, it was clear that price should not be the only factor in choosing where to shop.

“We want to be good corporate citizens through community outreach,” explains Adam. By tailoring their efforts to each store’s town, they can contribute in a personal and practical way. These initiatives cover a range of organizations, including food pantries, animal rescue programs, religious institutions, community athletic programs, and other worthy causes. In the past, Fairfield’s Pet Pantry Warehouse has donated money and products to Operation Hope, Al's Angels, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Parks and Recreation Department, among many others.

Most notably, the Fairfield location supports the town’s K-9 Unit by donating the majority of the food needed to care for the dogs, in order to support the tireless work of the officer-canine teams. According to Sergeant Evan Kaesmann, Fairfield Police Department’s K-9 Unit Supervisor,

The Fairfield K-9 Unit is funded entirely from private donations, so Pet Pantry Warehouse’s contribution of food is crucial. It’s a big commitment for individual officers to house and feed the dogs, so we’re especially grateful for the assistance.

Pet Pantry Warehouse has also instituted a program across all locations, entitled “Donatable Dollars,” in which consumers get a significant discount on selected products and at the same time, participating brands match up to the discount amount and a donation is made to worthy community programs. Initially set up as part of the local Covid-19 relief efforts, Donatable Dollars has continued to thrive and has contributed over $45,000 to local community efforts.

Next on the calendar is the Fairfield Harvest Market on the Old Town Hall Green on October 16. There will be an Adopt-a-Dog set up on-site, along with products and information about the company and its community outreach programs.

Adam’s parting words say it all: “We want to do well by doing good.”
