The New 9-5
IMO:
As I started another company a few months back, I realized that it didn’t have to be super specific or niche. Meaning my company could allow me to assist solopreneurs YET also be a speaker for any organization or company YET also host events...and do this in any industry and meeting so many new thinkers. My projects have been SUPER varied which makes me happy. What started as simply being a personal business ally has already morphed into other projects from possible teaching to speaking to other areas. I am hoping to somehow score a sports marketing client by year’s end and bring some more power to women’s sports. While I never purport to DO IT ALLLLL, I can flex creative muscles that I haven’t in years because everything I do is so bespoke. Then I can refer projects that don’t make sense for me to others in my badass network. I predict that all forms of working moving forward will focus more on pure productivity, rather than time of day people work (think we are finally getting over the “where” part of the equation). It just makes the most sense and can be scalable if you listen and implement the best way.
My fellow inspiration:
While multiple revenue streams can be a scary (yet fun!) thought, it made me, along with my neighbor, friend and fellow solopreneur Naj Noonan realize we could do different things, not only to make different income streams yet more so to never get bored and keep on moving in a forward direction with eclectic partners and passionate ideas. Naj has a background in corporate operations and decided to start TWO companies while still having another job and has really embraced the lifestyle and journey like a rockstar. Her first company, Anxious Pup Club helps dogs (and their humans) alleviate anxiety through holistic therapies and her latest venture, Luna Nur, pays homage to her mother and her birth country, Morocco. Luna Nur handcrafts resins, woods and essential oils into artisan Bukhoor for intuitive healing. She already has several clients through local networking and simply being amazing at what she does. Fun to see her creative ideas resonate with so many.
Bottom line:
Neither of us are in a corporate environment anymore (I must note that I learned sooooo much from the corporate life great in its own right!), and we are truly getting back to the OGs within us….living your passions authentically is a freaking dream, even while you are patiently waiting for that money to come in. I am very humbled to be able to start something totally new, with many facets to it, to help as many people choose action over ideas as I can.
As a second time entrepreneur myself, it takes a minute to figure it all out FOR SURE, because we are told to be SO FOCUSED in our goals…yet being nimble and addressing feedback and requests quickly can also lead you to things you’ve never dreamed of....no matter how many companies you’ve started. Being open to new clientele and journeys is a great way to think. Some think it is strange that I’m working with entrepreneurs and reaching out to sports agencies to inquire about a PT gig when I used to be a CEO (soooo incredibly small minded, obvi), yet I’m happy and know I’ll meet people that inspire my own journey from here on out.
Doing the same job daily is a pleasure for some, yet a pain for others. Naj wisely stated that everything else changes and develops in life, but our jobs don’t always. This new 9-5 has kept us on our toes for sure yet we believe in it and are ready to keep up the hard (and amazing) entrepreneur life. And you never know WHAT we’ll be doing next. Or WHEN or WHERE.
