Welcoming, inspiring and magical are just a few of the emotions one feels upon entering the doors of Flash Pointe Dance, conveniently located on the Post Road in Fairfield.

Owner Vickie Carey shared her inspiration for starting Flash Pointe Dance, “Our goal was to provide a welcoming and nurturing place to anyone who wants to dance, recreationally or if they want to be an elite dancer, go to college for dance. Or if a professionally bound dancer we can train them as well. It’s important to us that we support the whole spectrum of kids that want to dance.”

Most recently, one of Flash Pointe’s alumni, Aydin Eyikan, debuted in Broadway’s Music Man starring Hugh Jackman.  Eyikan competed in NBC’s World of Dance, season 3, and is a NYCDA National Teen Male Outstanding Dancer for two years. He recently deferred acceptance to The Julliard School to star in the Music Man.

Carey puts a lot of emphasis on safety at the Flash Pointe studio. She explains, “one of the reasons that dance is so important to me is it keeps our students safe and doing something they love.  And part of this is to have instructors that are well trained and share their skills and are good role models and good mentors. I recognize that families entrust their children to us so we take that responsibility seriously and also during these times their health as well.  We comply to all state and local requirements for the entire studio.”   In September of 2020, Carey installed a UV[SR1]  light filtration system to filter air among many other precautionary measures. Within one week of having to shut down the school due to COVID, Flash Pointe instructors were on ZOOM. Flash Pointe offered free preschool and adult classes for students along with students not enrolled at Flash Pointe.  People from Europe were logging in to Flash Pointe ZOOM classes!  In true Carey style, leaving no detail missed, she even had the floors engineered to protect the dancers, in each of the 5 dance studios.

“It’s not just important to just teach dance, we support parents in teaching their kids to be good community members,” Carey explains. Flash Pointe has annually organized a Fire and Ice dance event at the Klein Memorial Auditorium.  The proceeds raised from the event, live and silent auctions have benefitted organizations such as Al’s Angels, the American Cancer Society, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Red Cross and more.

On the Post Road side of Flash Pointe is the boutique Glitter and Grime also owned by Carey which specializes in dance, gymnastic, fitness apparel and shoes.  This store is open to the public for in-store shopping or curbside pickup is available by calling 203-259-1620.

On a personal note, I have a teenage daughter, Anastasia, enrolled at Flash Pointe.  She’s danced at Flash Pointe for 7 years, the last 4 years competitively.  Being on the competition team has taught her to manage her time wisely.  From a young age she was taught dance combos.  My husband and I have observed that learning dance from such a young age has trained her mind to think quickly and this skill has translated to learning math concepts and other concepts at a fast pace.  Dance is also unique in that she has had wonderful dancers to look up to when she was younger. Now that she is one of the older dancers on the team, she has had the amazing experience of teaching younger students during summer training. On a recent school assignment, she was asked to list her favorite people in her life and on that list were her two competition coaches, Liz Caskin and Donald Aversa.  Needless to say, dance has had a huge positive impact in our daughter’s life.

Carey concludes she wants all her students to take away this; if they are willing to work hard for something they want, they will achieve it. Hard work results in achieving your goal!  We’ve seen it first-hand, magical goals are achieved at Flash Pointe Dance!
