Party of two, three or four!
It’s a new year and we all want to start out with a different mindset. We are going to eat better, drink less, exercise and stay off our phones…yeah right. All those things sound hard and that’s why by about January 15th, we have abandoned all of them. I am a simple girl who tries to keep things easy. One thing that is easy to do and is possible to actually do is to invite a couple of friends, and yes, I mean just a few, over for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks. Just that. Not a big party which requires lots of prep, a cute theme or days of planning (although I know a great planner to do that if you want to!). You do not need to read a book or research anything to come. Life should be about connecting and that’s why I love being a party planner. I love seeing people in the moment connecting over a fun reason to be together.
How can you pull off a last-minute small gathering of your besties?
The hardest part is to decide to do it! So look at that, you checked off the first item on your list!
Next task is who to invite – only 2, 3 or 4 people. Does everyone know each other already or should you ask folks who you think would like to meet but have not yet? Keep it small!
Then figure out what time of day works – just after the kids go off to school? Maybe lunch or just before the kids come home from school? Let the family fend for themselves one night and do dinner?
There is no shame in picking up food from a local eatery or calling a caterer! In Fairfield, we are so lucky to have so many great businesses who can provide yummy food for any time of day. You also can ask your guests to bring something they love, homemade or bought, to stir conversation and introduce local businesses to each other.
Pick out complimentary beverages, alcoholic or not, and away you go!
The beauty of a small group is that you can use the dishes and glassware you have so no added expense and it all can go into the dishwasher when you are done!
Then the best part…sit and talk…and share…and laugh…and enjoy!
The new year will ramp up quickly, so let’s at least try to start off slowly and with those who make your heart sing. Girlfriends and relationships are what matters, so before it gets nuts, invite them over and enjoy each other for an hour or two with a snack, meal, drink or coffee. It doesn’t matter what. All that matters is that you did it. Party On and Happy New Year!
