Gut Friendly Spiced Hot Chocolate

We hope you enjoy this gut healthy twist on hot chocolate. With so much data available now demonstrating a healthy digestive system as the building block of optimal health, making small improvements in the foods we consume can make big impacts. Bone broth and collagen are soothing to the gut lining and good sources of protein, and cinnamon helps balance blood sugar.

Ingredients

1 cup milk*

½ cup bone broth**

2 tablespoons cacao powder

1 scoop grass fed collagen powder

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon cardamom

1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey, to taste

Pinch sea salt, to garnish

2-3 marshmallows

*Raw milk, A2 milk, coconut, hemp, walnut, and macadamia are nice options.

**We encourage you to try the bone broth (you won’t taste it!) but if you’d like to skip it, just add an additional ½ cup milk instead.

Directions

Combine milk and bone broth in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Add in cacao powder, collagen powder, cinnamon, and cardamom. Whisk vigorously or use a handheld milk frother until well combined and no powder lumps remain. Pour into a mug, stir in sweetener, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and top with marshmallows. Enjoy!

Serves: 1 (double or triple for additional portions)
