Making the Bottom Line a Top Priority
It’s no secret that raising children is expensive, but one essential item is not covered by federal assistance -- diapers. When Jess Besse and her husband, Dan, heard this statistic as they navigated life with their first baby, they were inspired to take action.
The Besses created Pampered Pant in 2016, an “athleisure” line for kids that raises roughly a day’s worth of diapers with every purchase. An impressive feat considering the average baby uses anywhere from 6 to 12 diapers daily! Working closely with the National Diaper Bank Network, Pampered Pant raises funds and awareness for this overlooked basic need. “One in three families in the United States can’t provide enough diapers for their children. Many daycare programs won’t accept kids whose families don’t provide diapers, often making it impossible for parents to work or complete their education. This domino effect is devastating,” Jess explains.
Let’s back up. Athleisure for children? Yes! Jess did extensive research to provide comfortable clothing without scratchy tags or seams and extra soft fabrics that appeal to kids. Some of Jess’s market analysis was influenced by two very important consultants -- her son, Nolan, and her daughter, Lila! “I love that we’ve developed a family business -- our kids are definitely a part of the process. I was happily surprised to see how much they enjoy participating.” Currently, their most popular pieces are the summerweight joggers in a neutral tone called “French Toast,” an item inspired by adult trends. Sweatshirts, leggings, and hoodies round out this appealing line.
Pampered Pant clothing can be purchased through their website, www.pamperedpant.com. The company also participates in local events to sell merchandise and promote the need for diapers. On May 6, customers can find Pampered Pant at the Pop Shop at Fairfield Theatre Company. As always, every purchase supports the National Diaper Bank Network!
Pampered Pant has also sponsored a diaper drive in conjunction with the Diaper Bank of Connecticut, collecting over 1,000 diapers! The NDBN places drop-off boxes throughout Connecticut and the U.S. For specific locations or more ways to volunteer, please visit thediaperbank.org. It’s a thoughtful way to use up those extra diapers from a box of a no-longer-needed size or an easy purchase on a trip to the supermarket.
