Questions and Glam-swers: Spring cleaning

I’m Lindsey Trop, a makeup artist local to Fairfield, and I’m extremely excited to be a part of the In a Fairfield Minute community. I’ve been a practicing makeup artist for 15 years, and I began this journey to help clients feel like their most beautiful selves. I take tremendous pride in doing so, and I hope to be able to do the same for you.

Over my career, I’ve had the privilege of beautifying countless models, actors, tv personalities, and brides. If you’d like to take a look at my work, please feel free to visit www.lindseytrop.com, or stop by my Instagram accounts @Lindseytrop_mua and @Lindseytropweddings. (And please feel free to say hello!)

Every month, I’ll use my years of knowledge and expertise to answer (I mean, Glam-swer!) your pressing makeup and beauty questions. Please feel free to email me with your questions at Lindsey@LindseyTrop.com and I will answer them in upcoming issues. I look forward to hearing from you!

Our first question comes from one of my former brides.

Question:

“All of my makeup products are pretty old. Are they still good to use?”

Glam-swer:

In the spirit of spring cleaning, let’s start our relationship off together with a clean makeup bag! Many find it surprising how quickly makeup products can expire. While it depends on the product type, formulation, usage frequency and how it is stored, the formulation itself can break down over time and bacteria can grow.

To determine when might be a good time to replace your products, your packaging may either have this symbol (INSERT SYMBOL) which will tell you how many months the product should be used for once it’s opened (i.e. 3M = 3 months; 6M = 6 months, etc.), or it may have an actual expiration date printed. Some products may not have either listed though, so below is a quick cheat sheet with average expiry dates.

Next comes the fun part- replenishing your makeup bag! If you’re looking for one-on-one guidance for what to incorporate into your makeup bag, please feel free to send me an email and I would be happy to schedule a consultation.
