Merry Up The Middle!
As an Event Planner who has my office in my home, my dining room table is pretty much covered in boxes for 8 months out of the year. But, for the holidays, I clear it off and try to get festive!
I like clean lines, color and fun (year-round, but 100% during the holidays!). I like to reuse and reinterpret what I have done in the past and try to make a new look that is striking me at the time. I do realize that decorating can be very stressful, especially with Instagram and Pinterest showing us what everyone else is doing, so the key is to stick with what you have and maybe accent with something new. Do not run out and redesign your whole holiday house! Give yourself a break and first, see what you have. Take it all out of the closet or down from the attic and pair up things that go together. Next pack up the rest of it and put it away for another year, or dare I say donate it for someone else to use. “Shop your house” and see if there are things you already have out around your home that you can use on the table. I love re-discovering what I have around the house to use. This would be when I realized I have a thing for trees…
Again, I like simple, fun and color, so put your collections right down the middle for all to see. No need to overcomplicate things! Mix in other items or textures like candles, runners, live things or faux things. This design allows room for plates, food and glasses and does not interrupt sight lines so good conversation abounds. I am also a fan of doing the decorating once for the whole holiday season, Thanksgiving until New Years, no need to change it up after each holiday. Leave time for you to see friends and family, attend parties, throw parties and celebrate the year!
Post your holiday table pics and tag me @lesliescottoevents so I can see your magic—and my guess—you will also inspire others!
Happy Holidays! Sending successful party vibes and joy to you!
